What is John “Swifty” Pyle’s net worth?

Introduction

John Pyle – better known by his Twitch handle, “Swifty” – is a Puerto Rican gamer and Twitch streamer.

He is best known for his live streams of his World of Warcraft sessions.

The Origin Story

Pyle was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on April 8th, 1980.

Nothing is known about his parents, but it is known that he has a sister named Cathy and a brother named Jay.

Before making his name as a Twitch streamer, Pyle was a pro skater.

Unfortunately, a motorcycle accident meant that Pyle was no longer able to compete at a professional level, and he abandoned his dreams of becoming a top pro skater.

Pyle instead turned to his second passion – PC gaming.

YouTube Channel

Pyle started his YouTube channel in 2006, has 678,000 subscribers, and has published 1,600 videos on his channel.

Though Swifty was a prolific publisher in the past, in recent years, his output dwindled to about 2 videos a year. At the time of writing, his last video was published in September 2022.

On June 3, 2011, he started his second YouTube channel, titled ”swiftyirl.”

Pyle’s YouTube channel is not limited to gaming clips (although he does have many such videos).

He also has a lot of videos that revolve around outdoor pursuits such as jet-skiing, biking, skateboarding, snowboarding, and mountain climbing.

Aside from his outdoor pursuits, Pyle has many videos that revolve around his gaming sessions in World of Warcraft.

Pyle typically posts clips of two kinds of WOW content: raids, in which players work together to overcome difficult enemies and bosses, and arenas, in which players fight against one another.

The former type of content is known as ‘PVE’ (player versus environment), and the latter ‘PVP’ (player versus player). Many players specialize in one or the other, but Pyle is known for his skill in both.

WoW Ban

Pyle was banned from World of Warcraft in 2011 by game creators Blizzard.

The ban – seen as controversial at the time – was a result of ‘server disruption’ that occurred during one of Pyle’s live streams.

Thousands of “Swifty” fans logged onto the server and began spamming emotes, which caused significant lag and had the capability to crash the server outright. Blizzard responded quickly to this, banning many players – including Pyle.

Blizzard reversed their decision a few days later, commenting that the reversal was a “correction rather than an exception” – meaning that Pyle was not being treated leniently because of his celebrity.

Bashiok (real name Micah Whipple – a Blizzard employee and Community Manager) said about Pyle’s unbanning:

”The decision to change some of the bans to suspensions was actually a correction, not an exception.”

Twitch

Pyle maintains a Twitch channel that has over 642,000 subscribers.

He is a frequent and prolific streamer and live streams several times a week.

Pyle does not limit his Twitch content to World of Warcraft.

He also streams titles such as:

  • Call of Duty (a first-person shooter video game franchise that started in 2003);
  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (a multiplayer first-person shooter video game that was developed by Hidden Path Entertainment and Valve Corporation);
  • Grand Theft Auto (an action-adventure video game series that was created by David Jones and Mike Dailly);
  • The Witcher (an action role-playing game which was developed by CD Projekt Red and published by Atari, based on the novel series of The Witcher by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski);
  • Battlefield (a series of first-person shooter video games that started out on Microsoft Windows and OS X with Battlefield 1942);
  • Minecraft (a sandbox video game that was created by Swedish game developer Markus Persson and released by Mojang in 2011. Minecraft allows players to build numerous different blocks in a 3D procedurally generated world).

He often hosts Razer product giveaways on his Twitch streams.
