NAMPA, Idaho (KBOI) — A man has been arrested after two robberies were reported at restaurants in Nampa Tuesday afternoon.
The robberies happened within a block of each other and minutes apart.
One happened at the Los Betos restaurant in the 16000 block of Idaho Center Blvd at about 4:07 p.m. The second occurred at the Port of Subs in the 5800 block of E. Franklin Road that was reported at 4:16 p.m.
Nampa Police identified the man as 23-year-old Austin Durham of Nampa.
Police say a Durham entered Los Batos restaurant and demanded money. According to an employee, the Durham had a handgun in his waistband area, but was never brandished. The employee gave the man an undisclosed amount of money and he fled the scene after putting it in a backpack. A witness observed a Durham run out of Los Batos around the North end of the building and get into a van.
According to police, Durham entered Port of Subs and demanded cash from an employee within a short amount of time. They say he fled northbound on foot empty-handed and was seen running east in front of Hampton Inn & Suites in the 5700 block of East Franklin Road.
Police say they spotted the early 2000's model green mini-van that matched a vehicle description. After making contact with the owners of the van, they were led to a home where Durham was found.
Nampa Police sent an alert to College of Western Idaho and a daycare notifying them of the incident that occurred in the area.
Nobody was injured in either robbery.
Durham was taken to Canyon County Jail on two counts of armed robbery.
Idaho Code 18-6503 states that armed robbery is punishable by imprisonment in the state prison not less than five years and the imprisonment may be extended to life.
