Garrett Wilson is the newest addition to the verbal war between the New York Jets and the Denver Broncos. The wide receiver appeared to take a not-so-subtle jab at Broncos’ new head coach Sean Payton.
Payton had laid down a wardrobe law for his own players before their preseason began. Wilson, on the other hand, was trying to poke fun at the supposed decree but did the opposite, and it attracted a lot of attention.
When the reporters asked Wilson whether he did that on purpose, the 23-year-old replied, “I’m not going to speak on it. I was advised not to speak.” Did he watch Jose Mourinho by any chance before the interview?
Payton told reporters before the Arizona Cardinals game that every player is required to be in their jersey, whether they are playing or not. Moreover, he banned anyone from wearing sunglasses and a bucket hat. He barred his players from partaking in interviews as well.

While he did not play the game, the Ohio State graduate hogged the touchline wearing sunglasses, a bucket hat, and a normal t-shirt. He even gave an interview after the match ended.
While some may try to connect the dots, it’s normal for any match goer to wear something similar. However, Wilson liked a viral post, suggesting that he was aware of Sean Payton’s words.
This new development arose after the back-and-forth war of words between the Jets and the Broncos. Sean Payton took a dig at the Jets’ appearance in this year’s Hard Knocks. “It doesn’t happen often when an NFL team gets embarrassed,” he said. “You watch ‘Hard Knocks,’ all of it. I can see it coming.”

Wilson has been one of the bright lights on the New York Jets since his draft last year. The Ohio native received more than 1,000 yards in his rookie season and scored four touchdowns on 83 receptions. He bagged the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
Now that the Jets have signed Super Bowl winner Aaron Rodgers as their franchise quarterback, expectations are through the MetLife Stadium’s roof. The 39-year-old has already established a connection with the young receiver. He compared Wilson to his former Packers teammate, Davante Adams, in a recent social media post.
Incidentally, both Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams wear the No. 17 jersey. On that note, there were speculations that the Jets might move for Adams. But the star receiver has no intention of making a trade. However, recent rumors of OL David Bakhtiari being targeted could reignite Adams’ interest as well.
